Reflexology
A relaxing and enjoyable holistic therapy treatment reflexology is a safe, natural aid to restoring and re-activating the body's own natural healing abilities.
By using their fingers, thumbs, and occasionally their knuckles, a reflexologist contacts specific *meridian and **acupressure points on the soles and tops of the feet.
The body's meridian system is made up of invisible channels through which ***chi circulates throughout the body.
*There are 12 main meridians in the body 6 of which end or begin on the feet or toes as follows:-
Kidney 1 - sole of foot
Liver 1 - big toe lateral;
Spleen 1 big toe medial
Bladder 66 - little toe;
Gall Bladder 44 - 4th toe.
Stomach 45 - 2nd toe.
** there are over 400 (very possibly many more not yet identified) acupressure points dotted along the meridian channels
*** chi is life force or life energy. When chi flows freely through the meridians the body is balanced and healthy however if chi becomes stuck, diverted or weakened in some way the result can be physical, mental, or emotional ill health eg stress related problems, migraine, digestive problems, insomnia, depression, anger, etc.
During a MB Holistic Therapies reflexology treatment session the client will remove their footwear, lie comfortably on a reclining chair or treatment couch with their feet elevated.
A brief medical history along with their current concerns will be discussed before the reflexologist begins to carry out a relaxing massage on the client's feet prior to contacting the acupressure points/meridian system of the feet and ankles.
The treatment, which takes approximately 1 hour in total, concludes with further massage and loosening techniques on the feet.
Cost per treatment £30.
Treatments are usually carried out at MB Holistic Therapies in Glasshoughton, however in certain circumstances it is possible to arrange for the treatment to be carried out at a client's home or business premises _ an extra charge would be incurred to cover time and and travelling costs.
It is recommended that the client wears comfortable loose fitting trousers for the treatment so that the therapist can access their lower leg area without causing them discomfort (changing facilities are available).
